Obituary for Reverend Charles T. "Skip" Weatherford Jr.

Reverend Charles T. "Skip" Weatherford Jr.
Reverend Charles T. Weatherford, Jr, of Ulster Park, NY, passed from this life on October 12th, 2017 in Kingston, NY at the age of 84. Charles is survived by his wife, Harriet Weatherford; children, Kelly Starr-Baker, Christa Starr-Whitney and Charles M. Weatherford; sibling, Sally Kemp of Punta Gorda, FL, and his grandsons, Weston Whitney, Brody Baker, and Trace Baker. He is preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Glenn.

Charles, who went by “Skip”, was born on February 16th, 1933 in Omaha, Nebraska to Charles T. Weatherford Sr. and Orley Weatherford (nee Ryan). As a member of ROTC in high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after graduation and served four years in locations ranging from El Toro Air Station in California to Okinawa Japan. During the Korean War he worked on aircraft electrical and radar systems, and was honorably discharged after his tour and having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He went on to graduate from the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor’s degree in English and Speech.

Skip led a storied life of many trades. He toured Europe with the Living Theater Company of New York City. After teaching in the NYC public school system, he co-founded the Green Valley School for Troubling Youngsters, which operated in both New York and in Florida. He worked as an interim Director for Gateway in Kingston, NY as well as the Director of Dutchess County ARC. He was a self-taught programmer in several computer languages. Being widely known across the Hudson Valley as the Data Doctor, he wrote programs for non-profit rehabilitation agencies to facilitate the special payroll needs of special people.

He married Harriet Starr (nee Marx), in 1981. His children remember him as a kind, gentle, and patient father who encouraged them to pursue their goals and supported them in every way imaginable. He led by example and immensely enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren learn and grow.

A seeker of wisdom, Skip was an ordained Priest in the Order of Melchizedek. His life focused on helping the individuals who came to him for healing of body, mind, and spirit. He became a Hypnotherapist to help in his healing work. He was good-natured, friendly, and compassionate. He was a lifelong student of Tarot, Numerology, and Kabbalah, and loved sharing his passions with other seekers.

Spirituality was his lifelong pursuit, and above all else Skip Weatherford was a teacher of knowledge in lessons both great and small. Skip's final humanitarian gesture was tissue donation.

Memorial visitation is scheduled from 1pm - 3pm on Saturday, November 4th, 2017 at the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, NY, with a Scottish-inspired afternoon tea to follow at The Birches at Esopus, 35 Dick William's Lane, Ulster Park. Please join in celebrating Skip’s amazing life with family and friends.

The family would like to thank all who came to his aid, from first responders (Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad and Mobile Life Support Services) to hospital ER staff for their efforts, care, and dedication in preparing him for his Next Adventure.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that those wishing to honor Charles' memory offer donations to the Association for Research and Enlightenment's Prison Outreach Program.
