Obituary for Elsie Marie Rohrer

Elsie Marie Rohrer
Elsie Marie Rohrer, 91, of Doris Street, Port Ewen, passed away peacefully at home while in the comforting presence of her family, on Tuesday, October 10th, 2017.

Born in Queens, New York on November 28th, 1925, a daughter of the late John and Marie (Meyer) Engelhardt, Elsie lived a wonderful life full of joy and love. She married her military sweetheart, the late Earl Rohrer, on April 13th 1946, surrounded by family and friends. They lived a life full of adventure and love, traveling the world, and leaving pieces of them where ever they went.

Elsie was known as the "little general" while employed as a secretary for the Lutheran Church of the Epiphany, in Hempstead, NY for over 35 years where she rejoiced the praise of the lord and the community.

After her husband Earl joined the heavens on September 16, 2006, Elsie moved up to Port Ewen to live with family and became a legend in her own.

Whether having the pleasure of meeting Elsie in person or just hearing of her stories, Elsie brought joy to the hearts of so many. She was best known for her quick wit and way with words as well as her love of penguins. She was always up for some ice cream or wine and never too far from her bowl of "snick-snacks" and peanut M&Ms. She loved to entertain and be around family and friends. Elsie will be greatly missed.

She is survived by many friends and family including: nieces: Karin (Engelhardt) Bunt of Kingston, and her children Tiffany Stapleton of Woodbourne and John Stapleton of Port Ewen, Patrica McGarry of Long Island and her daughters Laura of Long Island and Andrea of Florida, and Denise Engelhardt and her children Dennis, William, and Samantha, all of Port Ewen. She is also survived by two brothers: John Engelhardt and family of New Jersey, and William Engelhardt and Karin Engelhardt of Port Ewen.

The memorial service officiated by The Rev. Dr. David M. Brechter will begin at 6:45 pm on Wednesday, October 18th, 2017 at the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, Town of Esopus.
The family will receive friends during memorial visitation, prior to the service, from 5:00 pm to 6:45 pm.

Entombment will be held at Calverton National Cemetery, Long Island at a later date.
