Obituary for Michael Ferrante

Michael Ferrante
Michael Ferrante, 56, of 29 Hudson Valley Landing, Kingston, NY and formerly of Lake Shore Villas, Port Ewen, NY passed away peacefully on Monday, May 1, 2017 at home from natural causes due to a consequence of mental illness.

He was born in NYC on December 17, 1960, a son of Louise Tarricone Ferrante and the late Richard Ferrante. Originally from New York City, he has been an area resident since 1997, living in Kingston and Port Ewen. His hobbies included soccer, football and hang gliding in his early years. He enjoyed writing, rock music and playing guitar. He was the second of three children, following his sister Lucia and preceding his brother Anthony. Survivors include his mother, Louise Tarricone Ferrante, his sister Lucia Ferrante Leslie and husband Antonio Leslie, his brother Anthony Ferrante, his nephew Kwasi Leslie, his wife Samantha, and daughter Ivy Catherine, his niece Nyala Leslie, and his nephew Diarra Joseph Leslie. Survivors also include his aunt Mary Corrigan, and his uncle Dominick and aunt Joanne Tarricone. Michael is a beloved cousin to many including Joanne Adduci Vedral who was like a sister to him. Michael always had a smile to share and came to find peace at his home on the Rondout where he enjoyed the marina as he once did at the family’s childhood beach house in Montauk, L.I. He was a dearly beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin and uncle. “In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings,” (Jimmy Page & Robert Plant). Mental illness is a disease that affects the brain. Treat the mentally ill with the compassion you would show to one with an illness that afflicts other parts of the body.

Michael’s family will receive guests from 10:00 am until 12 noon this Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, Town of Esopus, NY. A prayer service will be celebrated at 12 noon with the Rev. Carl Johnson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Treatment Advocacy Center at http://www.treatmentadvocacycenter.org or donate by mail to 200 North Glebe Road, Suite 801, Arlington, VA 22203.
