Obituary for James Arthur Parkes
A memorial service will be held for both Jim and his wife Eileen at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, NY 12401. Inurnment will follow at Montrepose Cemetery, Kingston, NY.
James Arthur Parkes, 86, of Crossville, TN, passed away suddenly at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville on February 27, 2017.
Jim was born July 20, 1930 in Kingston, NY, son of the late Frank Parkes and Hazel Kelder Parkes.
Jim was a veteran of the Korean conflict having served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Signal Corp. Jim retired from Eckloff Marine Shipping as an Oil Barge Captain in the New York Harbor. After retiring, Jim and his wife Eileen relocated to Crossville where he “played at working” at the Heatherhurst Golf Course.
Jim is survived by his Daughter Michele (Jim) Taylor of New Paltz, NY, Grandson Justin (Jen) Taylor of Poughkeepsie, NY, 3 Great-Grandchildren, and Brothers Charles of Elkton, FL and Gerald of Pine City, NY. In addition to Jim’s parents, he is preceded in death by his Wife, Elizabeth Wagner Parkes, Brother Frank Parkes, Grandson Jeremy Taylor, and most recently by his wife Eileen on January 31, 2017 in Crossville, TN:
