Obituary for Susan E. Van Velson

Susan E.  Van Velson
Susan E. Van Velson, 63, of Esopus Avenue, Ulster Park, passed away at home while in the comforting presence of her family on Saturday, February 4, 2017, following a battle with cancer.

She was born in Elmhurst, NY on January 5th, 1954, a daughter of the late Hank and Ritza (Hyvonen) Kinsch.

A longtime resident of Ulster Park, she was a graduate of Kingston High School class of 1972, and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Baruch College, NYC. She was employed as a CPA with Fulvio & Associates, LLP in NYC.

Susan enjoyed attending rock concerts, Broadway Plays and NY Yankee games with her husband Gary. She also played the church organ on Sundays in Staten Island.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Gary W. Van Velson, two brothers, Michael Kinsch, and his wife Kathy, of Ulster Park, and Richard Kinsch of Florida, two brothers-in-law, Mark Hewitt, and his wife Darlene, of Staten Island, and Scott Van Velson, and his wife Jackie, of New Jersey, and two sisters-in-law, Karin Roberts of New Jersey, and Denise Jacobs, and her husband Blaine, of Maryland, and one godson, Daniel Hewitt of Staten Island. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

She will also be missed by her beloved pug, Franklin, and min pin, Scout.

The funeral service will be held 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 7th, 2017 at the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, Town of Esopus, Rev. Kevin Slusher, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 3 pm to 7 pm. Cremation will follow privately at Wiltwyck Crematory, Kingston.
