Obituary for Rita R.E. LaPorte

Rita R.E.  LaPorte
Rita R.E. LaPorte, 83, of Mirror Lake Park, Ulster Park passed away Wednesday morning, May 18th, 2016 at Ten Broeck Commons.

Rita was born in Queens, NY on January 18th, 1933, a daughter of the late Harold and Madeline (McIntyre) Edlind.

Rita was very proud of her service in the law enforcement field as a secretary for Ulster County Sheriff Michael LaPaglia, and as secretary of the Ulster County Chiefs of Police Association. She cherished her close relationship with New Paltz Police "Chief Charlie" Bogdanowicz. In the 1970's, she was also a legal secretary, and a news announcer reporting the New Paltz News on WGHQ. She loved all animals, caring for and training many.

Rita is survived by two sons, Stanley B. Allen III of Kingston, and Marc D. Weinberger (Sarah) of Port Ewen, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her daughter Melanie Patton, and sister Dorothy Edlind.

The family has entrusted the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, ulster Park, N, with the care and funeral arrangements for Rita.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday at the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, Rev. Eugene J. Grohe, celebrant. Rita's family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 noon to 2 pm. Cremation held at Wiltwyck Crematory.
