Born in Kingston, NY, Harry VanVliet was raised in Sleightsburgh and attended Port Ewen Elementary School and Kingston High School.
He is a 1998 honors graduate of the Mortuary Science Program at Hudson Valley Community College where he was the recipient of the Mortuary Science Award for Leadership and Professionalism. Having worked in various Kingston area funeral homes, he earned his NYS license to practice funeral directing in 2005, and in 2007, he earned the designation of Certified Funeral Service Practitioner from the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice.
In 2013, Harry completed studies as a Certified Funeral Celebrant, who serves by officiating a tribute that is personalized and individualized to reflect the personality and life-style of the deceased.
He is a member of the NYS Funeral Director's Association, and the Dutchess-Putnam-Ulster Funeral Director's Association. Very active in his Esopus community, he is a member of the Esopus Seniors, the Klyne-Esopus Historical Museum, the Town of Esopus Lions Club, anda life-member and former Secretary of the Ulster County Chiefs of Police Association..
Harry, his wife Gina (Bono), and their children, Taylor and Matthew, are longtime parishioners of Sacred Heart RC Church in Esopus.
